Brigitte Granton

Brigitte Granton is a landscape artist from King Township, Ontario.
“I am a naturalist at heart. I have always been drawn to the woods, marshes and creeks, spending much of my childhood exploring all the plants and animals in these places. I grew up with an artist father who introduced me to oil painting at a young age. I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t painting or drawing. When asked as a child what I wanted to be when I grew up my answer was always an artist. However, in high school I had to make a decision, and I decided to pursue an education in Natural Sciences, my other love. I had careers in medical research and Forensics but continued to paint throughout my life, focusing on it full time now for the past ten years. I do believe that my two passions, natural biology and art complement each other well. It is through my paintings that I combine both the skills of an artist and biologist, to portray the emotion and connection I feel when I explore the natural world, observing and translating the interplay of light on colour and form in nature.

I prefer to paint in oils, using bold strokes, creating impasto with both brush and palette knife, often using accents of vivid colour to create the excitement I feel in a landscape. I have spent much of my life hiking, canoeing and camping throughout Canada and thus have developed a profound love of this country. It is through my paintings that I capture and preserve the beauty of our natural world.
