Mary Karavos

Born in Toronto, ON, Mary Karavos studied at the Ontario College of Art. In her graduating year, Mary was selected for advance studies in Florence, Italy.
After graduating, Mary continued living in Florence, inspired by the city’s architecture, history and art. In particular, Florence’s beautiful mosaics greatly influenced Mary and her art.
Mary “paints with paper,” creating vibrant, textured collages. She patiently tears and layers Japanese, Nepalese and Korean paper, producing intricate, rich images in a stunning variety of hues. This is a process Mary has spent years developing and it has garnered her an international reputation. Mary’s work is found in collections throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia.
“I love the way my art allows me to meet and connect with people. I honour being able to see the way people take their time to select the piece that speaks to them. Choosing art, like creating it, is a deep and personal process.”
