Rachel was educated at the University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Studio Art and Art History. Rachel lives in Elora, Ontario with her husband and 4 active children.
Artist Statement: These paintings are a visual representation of the beauty of vulnerability. Stroke by stroke I navigate the place where intentionality and chance meet; where purposeful marks blend into the wet paint beneath to create an unreplicable synthesis of colour. It is in these bold marks against a quiet backdrop that a narrative of possibility is layed down; graceful curves and blending of colours culminate in a painting that celebrates the beauty of imperfection and the importance of choosing courage.
In an intuitive process, I apply acrylic paint with a palette knife to create energetic gestural marks that culminate in a dynamic composition that is balanced by the visual rest of negative space.
